Frequently Asked Questions
What is Conscious Movement?
Conscious Movement is a dynamic practice of free-form, intuitive movement that promote physical vitality, mental clarity, emotional expression and spiritual connection.
Classes are appropriate for all levels of movement experience.
Participants generally leave class feeling more grounded, clear-minded, with a sense of inner connection and peace.
Visit our About page to learn more.
What if I don't know how to dance?
You were born to move. Every joint in our body was created to move. We are always moving in life.
In conscious movement and conscious dance, there is no judgment. How you look doesn't matter! There are no steps, no "right" way and no "wrong" way. There are no "dance moves" or choreography to follow.
The only invitation is to follow your body and move in ways that feel good to you!
A key to movement as a healing practice is to let go of our inner critic by engaging self compassion to allow our body to surprise us and move as it desires to. The more we practice moving intuitively spontaneously, the more we learn to allow the body to lead, trusting that there is a wisdom in our movement expression.
What is a class like?
There are 4 parts to a class: Arrival, Beginning, Middle and End.
Arrival: Plan to come 10 minutes early to get checked in, get acclimated to the space, settle in and start to arrive into presence. When you arrive in the room, music will already be playing. You are invited to begin arriving by silently connecting with your body through gentle movements, stretching and breathing.
Beginning: The teacher will provide a short verbal introduction and the theme of the class.
Middle: The musical soundscape is an original playlist skillfully woven from an eclectic blend of world music designed to support your movement. The pace of the music varies and you are invited to always trust your body and to how it wants to move on a given day. The teacher provides light guidance and the invitation is to follow your own body and your own free-form dance within a lovingly held container of heart-centered community.
End: Classes typically end with the opportunity sharing a few words and a brief closing.
How much do classes cost?

What do I need to bring?
We encourage you to bring a water bottle and an extra layer to put on/take off so you can be comfortable. There is a space to store your shoes and your coat. You may keep your purse or valuables into the room for safekeeping.
Conscious dance classes are generally barefoot dancing. If you would like to wear dance shoes with a soft bottom that is a good option. Socks are discouraged for safety reasons, but do what makes you most comfortable.
What if I can't stand for 1 hour?
You are always welcome to do what your body needs and wants. That may include lying on the floor, moving while sitting in a chair (a few chairs will be provided in the movement space), or simply resting in a way that is comfortable for you.
The dance floor is fully accessible and there are no stairs in the building.
